I would have to say those therma-care wraps. The ones that Shaq is always pimping on the tv. I wrap one of those around my chest every time I do a cold weather tree stand hunt. Keeps my vitals warm and lets me sit in the stand for a long time.
This is the knid of stff that brought me to bowcast! Unconventional tactics, and new ways of thinking. What would the old timers say if they knew we were using thermacare wraps, hot mocs and thermacells….?
I have two of them: - REI nylon trekking pants. They are light weight and cool for Aug/Sep hunting and scouting. The zip off pant legs can be zipped half way and this adds to the ventilation in the back of the knee area. I have found nylon pants at Bass Pro but they have been out the last few times I have tried to buy. There durability is superior to Sitka and First Lite and they are much cooler. I wish a company would make some great early season western cammo gear in nylon.
-Also Vibram 5 Fingers shoes. They are great for stalking are quiet and protect your feet. I put a second arrow in a deer on a 30 degree slope while gripping a rock with my toes above the deer at 16 yards.
Ratcheting pruners. Don’t levae home without them. You can cut your way through a thicket without making a lot of racket, trim branches around your blind or stand, or clip some branches for firewood. They are usually faster than a saw too.
Bjaeges, I agree with you on those pants. I live in Hawaii, and 90% of all hunting clothes made are too hot for my hunts. I’ve been sewing packs and bags for years. One of these days, I will have to learn to make clothes too.
5 hour energy…. the black label
HERE HERE!!
The ipod. When im in a stand I get really board after a couple hours so I put in one ear bud and listen to bowcast of course. I can usally get a couple more hours in.
Thought of another one. My BlackDiamond climbing harness for sitting in the stand. It stays out of the way when I’m shooting. It is very light and packs nice, and you really can’t beat it for safety.
BackJoy seat cushion. If I’m doing an all day sit in a stand or on the ground glassing, there is nothing better than this pad.
1. Trecking poles. 2. Afrin nose spray bottle, (drill hole to 1/8″ take out straw, fill with corn starch etc. makes a handy wind checker.) 3. Nylon track warm ups, inexpensive light weight, pack down to nothing, help block the wind, and when treated with Atsko DWR, are water and snow resistant. 4. Insoles from an old pair of shoes, I stuff them into thick socks, then pull the socks on for stalking the last 50 yards or so, quiet, and offer protection from stones and stickers.
