The 46 Rail Mountain Mile Bowathalon
Rules and Regulations

Registration-
•	All applications including the $50 entry fee and signed waiver must be received on or before 6/1/2012. Registration can be completed at www.bowcastatthebird.com there will be no refund of the $50 entry fee.
•	There is 50 competitor limit. A waiting list will be set up, first come, for applications received after the first 50 participants.
•	All participants that need to for any reason drop out of the race are asked to let the race committee know no later than July 13th 2012.
•	There will be a mandatory race meeting that includes all participants on July 20th at 7:00 AM. Place TBD
•	There will be NO aid stations or support on the one mile course. Athletes are expected to carry their own water and know their own limits.
•	In the event that an athlete is unable to finish the course they are to notify a course official who will escort the athlete off of the course.
Rounds/Paring and Advancement-
•	There will be 10 “heats” that take place on Friday July 20th 2012. Each heat will consist of 5 athletes. Each heat will start every half hour starting at 9:00 AM MST.
•	Pairing for each heat will be determined by random draw. This draw will take place on Monday July 16th. Results of the drawing and times of the specific heat will be posted on www.bowcastatthebird.com
•	Each heat winner will advance as well as 10 wild card athletes. The wild card will be determined by fastest net course time. In all 20 athletes will advance to the semi-finals. The semi-finals will take place on Saturday July 21st starting at 9:00 AM. There will be 4 heats of 5 athletes each. Pairing and start times for the semi-finals will be determined by quarter final times. The 4 heat winners and 1 wild card athlete (fastest non heat winner) will advance and participate in the 46 Rail Mountain Mile Championship Saturday July 21st at 2:00 PM. *all times subject to change
•	The winner of the 2012 46RMMB will be awarded (prize to be determined)
Scoring/Timing-
•	The race/heat winner will be the first to cross the designated finish line. Along the course the athlete will shoot at 5 total 3D archery targets.
•	Each athlete will be allowed to carry 5 arrows, one for each target. The targets are set up on a “hit or miss” format. If missed the athlete will complete a designated penalty lap in which the athlete will have to ring a bell that is placed off the course. After the bell is rung the athlete will return to the course and proceed on the course to the next target or finish line.
•	The hit zone will be painted clearly in orange and the circumference of the hit zone/target will be the 10 ring of a McKenzie 3D target.
•	Each athlete must remain on the clearly marked course. If the athlete leaves the course or shortcuts for any reason it will result in immediate disqualification.
•	All targets will be judged by two separate judges. This will consist of a box judge at the shooting line and a target judge. These judges will have final say on all hits/misses or course violations.
•	In the unlikely event of an exact tie at the finish line, for advancing purposes only, the first tie breaker will be determined by most targets hit. The second tie break will be determined by a re-race of the courses first target. The third tie-breaker will be determined by a coin toss.

Safety-
•	Safety for athlete and spectators will be priority number one at the 46RMMB.
•	Each athlete must check in with the official scores table before and after their respective heat.
•	Each athlete must have their race bib visible during the entire heat.
•	There will be no iPods, mp3 or other music playing devices allowed. It is imperative that you are able to hear course officials at any given time.
•	We ask for strict obedience to course officials. Failure to do so may result in disqualification.
•	When passing another athlete on the course the passing athlete is to yell what side that they are passing on. Blocking a quicker runner is not allowed. Please allow the quicker athlete right of way. No intentional physical contact allowed.
•	All arrows shot at targets will be retrieved by course officials and returned to the athlete at the official scorer’s table after all heats are finalized. Runners are encouraged to have enough arrows to complete the course 3 times. (15 arrows)
•	All athlete bib numbers are to be written on all veins and shaft of the arrow. Markers will be provided at the scorer’s table.
